My Layton vs Your Phoenix: Part I

It was just shy of two years ago when I popped that unassuming DS cartridge in my 3DS. It certainly was an unattractive little cartridge that was an ugly blue with a white silhouette of a character loved by many but unknown to me. I remember not being overly impressed upon a play through of the first few chapters... but yes, I was incredibly impressed by the start: a body on the floor, blood slowly pooling around the victim and a heinous plot hatched by an evil looking, twisted faced man to blame an innocent passerby. Then in came a short monologue, cheesy courtroom drama channeling all sorts of early 1990s Law & Order music and a bumbling idiot named Larry Butz who you had to defend. The shift in tone made me scratch my head: exactly what had I gotten myself into?

Obsession(s) for Weeks: 10/08/2010 - 10/29/2010

Damon Albarn

One half of the genius behind Gorillaz, Damon Albarn has quickly become one of my favourites. He is incredibly, musically diverse and accomplished. He is freaking brilliant.

None Nerdier Than I

Well, maybe Beetchie and Bughie J. are.

Oh yeah, and then there's Aims.  She's like a super nerd.  There's nothing wrong with that.  It's rather endearing of her actually.

But I digress.

This is why I am a nerd.

Law & Order is being released on the 3DS.

I mean...

Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney.
...

Take a moment to breathe.

Annnnddd...exhale!

Having never played that Phoenix Wright game, there really is no reason why I should be as giddy as I am.  It's not that I am a cretin or anything but I just never managed to get my hands on Capcom's well-loved Ace Attorney.  It's also pretty pricey to try to find one now which is why I don't have a copy yet.

However, you give me Hershel Layton and I will get screechy with happiness.

It almost makes me forget that I'm having such a dastardly time with The Unwound Future.  He must be the witch with those beady eyes...Those mesmerizing, beady eyes!

And Luke! Awww, Little Luke Triton but really, did anyone else notice just how tiny Luke looks? (H1? You're anyone.  Did you see that?)

If only Future hottie adult Luke Clive were to show up, then this would be complete but in the meanwhile...

1. This crossover can only be EPIC.  They best not mess this up but I have lots of faith in Level-5.  Lots and lots.

2. All that finger-pointing can only have me feeling daft yet strangely correct about everything.

3. This best not be Japan only because there will be some objections, murdering, followed by some puzzling, and finally a Trial.

4. Dependent on point 3, if there was any reason to NOT get a 3Ds, that just got shot out the window when this game was announced.

5. I know it's unrelated but now that I have your attention, can anyone tell me the answer to the Parrot Delivery Mini-Game #6? Anyone? Seriously, I am stuck.

Obsessions of the Week(s): 10/06/2009 - 10/24/2009

Final Fantasy VII

Yes, now that I can play it on the PSP, why wouldn't I?! Never you mind I've played it about 3.5 times before. This game is my favourite of all games and while I have (checklist: 'No More Heroes', 'Persona 3' to finish, 'Persona 4', 'Okami', 'The Beatles: Rock Band', 'Disgaea DS' and 'Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door' ) to play, I still go back to my Sephiroth. Really, I'm enjoying this immensely. Again. Even after 12 years, it's still the best. The story, the heartache and everyone to meet again - I love it all.

Professor Layton and The Diabolical Box

Maybe I became less intelligent in the less than 2 years since I played the first installment of this series, or maybe it really did get more challenging. Curse you, Luke and Professor Layton! I love them though... although I'm hearing different voice actors. What?! What happened to Hershel?! What happened to Luke?! Where are they! Ha, Luke's still a riot and Hersel's still got them beady eyes I love. Clever game this and my brain is still not ready but I'm already 1.5 hours in. It's going to be a long journey... ::sigh::

The End of the Year Review

It's almost that time of year. I feel like I am way behind in my games, my anime watching and need to definitely catch up with my music! I'm already thinking about the lists for the best of 2009 in all those categories (I think I've played enough games this year to add that too). And most importantly, I'm thinking about the "Airing of Grievances". So exciting... who's going to be number 1 this year? MC? Frass? X? Hmmm...I wonder...

The Diabolical Box

Some may claim that it is "Elysian" but that box had nothing on this one:

'Tiled', you say?

H1 and I showed you, BOX!

Ah the lengths we go to solve a puzzle.

If only we could do same for the "trash" puzzle that doesn't involve our dealing in trash...

Professor Layton and The Curious Village

Proving what I already know... my logic goes only as far as a "B-"

Professor Layton

There are two things I'd like to discuss.

The first is that I am stoopid and Professor Hershel Layton has solidified this once theory.

The second is that Professor Layton is unkind to dogs and matches.

Memorable Quotes of the Week:

"If I drink this Aquadeco water, I will build up an immunity to Canada so when I go there, I won't die." - H1

Or 2: I am too stoopid to play Professor Layton! There was this terrible puzzle involving a dog being run over by a car. It was horrid!
Bughie J.: ack! how can you solve puzzles under those kinds of conditions: solve this puzzle or we'll run over this dog?
Or 2: the dog was already run over. But here's what is really crap. They showed the dog before it got run over by a car. I was supposed to illustrate how it'd look after.
Bughie J.: I do not think I will be playing this game

Or 2's Away Message: Muchas Smooches to all on this Valentine's Day! But not from me, I don't give those.
H1's Response Away Message: Muchas Slaps to Or 2. She accepts those.

H1 and Or 2, after seeing a guy on a bicycle with bright neon green hair, and bright red facial hair cycling his way through the streets of midtown (it was a hideous spectacle),

Or 2: Where's my camera?! Ugh, I can't get it fast enough. It's times like this I wish I had a had a built in camera in my eye. I wish my eye was a camera.
H1: And how would you take pictures?
Or 2: I would take pictures like this
