Chris Cornell to Leave Audioslave

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Chris Cornell is leaving rock group Audioslave, citing "irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences."

"I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors," Cornell said Thursday in a statement.

An after-hours call to Audioslave's music label was not immediately returned.

Cornell, 42, a former singer and guitarist with Seattle grunge band Soundgarden, said he'll release a solo album May 1 called "Carry On." He also co-owns a restaurant in Paris, where he splits his time.

Audioslave was formed in 2001 and comprised of Cornell and three former members of Rage Against the Machine. The group recorded three albums and performed in Havana in 2005.

Meanwhile, Rage Against the Machine planned to reunite to perform at this year's Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival, which runs April 27 through 29. Tom Morello, the lead guitarist of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, has said the concert is a one-shot deal.

We knew that something was up when there was no tour for the last album. We're thankful that we did see them in concert (goodness knows that was one of the best - way better than Matisyahu)

Or 2 is placing the blame on Chris, while HOchie 1 is citing Sweet D as the cause of the break up. I had to correct her and tell her that it's Vicki.

Whatever the case may be, they'll all be alright. Chris is an awesome vocalist, awesome being an understatement. My Rage boys are fantastic, fantastic being an understatement.

Our only hope is that this means there might be the second coming or RATM. The HOchies can dream...

Rage On at Coachella

Apparently it's not much fun raging against the machine all by one's self.

So, in the spirit of unified revolution-sparking, the pioneering Los Angeles quartet Rage Against the Machine is reuniting to co-headline the 2007 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival Apr. 27-29 in Indio, California.

Frontman Zack de la Rocha, guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk haven't shared a stage since September 2000. The following month, de la Rocha announced he had split from the group, saying that, although he was quite proud of what they had accomplished, Rage's "decision-making process" had "completely failed."

The dreadlocked musician-activist has kept a far lower profile than his former band mates, who joined up with ex-Soundgarden leader Chris Cornell to form Audioslave. Instead de la Rocha has kept busy recording tracks with the likes of DJ Shadow, Trent Reznor and British act Reprazent, and, although rumors of a solo album haven't come to fruition yet, his tune "We Want It All" showed up on the Songs and Artists that Inspired "Fahrenheit 9/11" soundtrack.

While there's no word on whether the Coachella gathering will lead to more joint appearances, a single line on de la Rocha's Website, which is currently under construction, reads, "Rage Reunion, yea!" A simple sentiment, yet one that pretty much says it all as far as the band's fans are concerned.

"You can not understate their influence on where music went after them," Goldenvoice promoter Bill Fold, who's helping to produce this year's Coachella, told the Riverside Press-Enterprise . "Their sound as well as their message has a lot of deep-rooted meaning for a lot of musicians and fans…This is huge."

This year marks the first time the increasingly popular music fest in the SoCal desert has been spread out over three days. Rage, which headlined the first Coachella back in 1999, will top the bill on Sunday Apr. 29.

The main stage will also play host to repeat headliners Björk (2002) on Friday and Red Hot Chili Peppers (2003) on Saturday.

Also letting bygones be bygones for at least one night this year are the Australia-based showmen of Crowded House, who haven't performed live since 1996, and Scottish alt-rockers the Jesus and Mary Chain, who haven't appeared together since a messy gig at L.A.'s House of Blues in 1998, after which guitarist William Reid left the band; the remaining members went their separate ways the following year.

People! April 27-29th! Rage Against The Machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We need to be all over this!

There are two other reasons (for me to go at least and they are Tool and the Arctic Monkeys) but I'm sure the rest of you can find others in the extensive line up to make this trip.

But putting all that aside, it's all about FRICKIN' RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!!

After weeks of being told by the resident expert that Chris and the gang would not perform Getaway Car or Shadow on the Sun and then almost believing it because after an hour and five minutes they had not performed either, my husband-to-never-be busted into Shadow complete with cheesy glowing sun backdrop and I could not sing any louder. AND just to prove that he is as broken up about us never having found our way to each other before we each commited to others, he launched into an acoustic dedication of Getaway to me. Chris, I do so love yo' ass... and moreso in those ultra tight jeans. Thanks and Thanks.

Audioslave performed for almost two hours last night and for those of you who passed up a chance to see Audioslave perform in New York City on a cool night at the Garden, let me just say that you missed your chance to be a bitch like the rest of us and we loved every minute of it.

I will easily dismiss the Soundgarden songs since that now defunct group was never a favourite of mine but those Rage Against the Machine songs got the Garden jumping and I truly regret never having seen RATM perform. Tom, you are indeed the master. Timmy and Brad, you guys rule. Chris was secondary in the RATM songs because the crowd could easily have supplied the vocals as we were wont to do in the instrumental smackdown of Bulls on Parade that the three masters laid on us when Chris left the stage.

Tom's mom, Mary, introduced the group as the "Best Fucking Band in the world" and then was escorted to a seat two arms' lengths in front of us. Hochie or 2 recognized her or figured out that it was her potential mother-in-law but was too shy to go try to weasel her way into the good graces and Hochie or 2, you are right, "Sweet D" ain't got nothing on thee.

October was really a great month for all the things we did. There were some not so good times which we will list but overall, October was awesome. Halloween tomorow and a review of the neighbourhood kids' costumes as well as the October wrap-up.
