Mitdown, Wednesday and a Hometown Mini-Escapade

What the...

why so many foodie adventures as of late?

Today, we tried the Wafel and Dinges truck on 52nd St. X and Alex came on the jaunt and we ate like good times.

The pulled pork was not the disappointment we thought it may have been.
H1 and X don't think the cole slaw really worked out but I liked it.
The watermelon pickle was crunchy and refreshing.

Let us, though, talk about the liege waffle I got, that I had my good truck man douse with dulce de leche, belgian chocolate syrup and then had him coax me into getting fruit, which I did not hestitate to get and on he piled a giant cut up strawberry.

Y-U-M.

Maybe everything just tasted so much better today because we bought our food from a tricked out truck.

Or maybe it's just that we had to walk a few blocks with our food exposed to the lovely NY air - full of pigeons flying all around, people talking over it and glaring at us with ill intent and the occasional drool...you know, all those good NYC things.

In all honesty though, I love this damned city.

Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you really, really sick.

Hopefully I won't be because I'm flying in a few hours.

This evening, the adventuring continued as H1 and I were cranky, cold, wet from being soaked in the rain, and starving.

We sat in the truck in the parking lot eating some baked chicken that Momma HOchie had cooked, while Luiiiisssss and Boobey were off getting some groceries.

We were still hungry and with a KFC not only a two minute walk away, we decided that for once our constant planning to do things but never going through with said things, would for once...happen.

Really, she was taunting me with the fact that we did this all the time so I was determined that I would no longer be a chump!

Never mind I almost turned back right when we got to KFC's door!

So we went in, ordered a 10 piece sauceless hot wings pack and I was tempted to add a little bucket of parfait, which I did.

All this just so Luuuuiiisss could come back to the car and see us munching on chicken.

We would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for them pesky cellphones!

He didn't know we trekked to the KFC but we were so busted when he needed H1 to bring around the grocery card, and we couldn't produce right away.

Meh.

The parfait by the way was okay until the bottom - which was an unnecessary pile of fake graham crackers in the form of sawdust that tried to choke me.

Ah, fun times were had today.

Fun times.

Memorable Quotes of the Evening:

While walking home to the train...

Resident crazy guy on 47th to some girls: I wanna put you in a movie
Girls: heeeheehee.
Resident crazy guy: porno.
Girls: ::down trodden and collectively:: awww..hooooohhhh.

While trekking across the parking lot...

Or 2: Suddenly the KFC seems very far.
H1: You walked longer to get to 52nd St. today.
Or 2: True. Well now that you put it like that...

Midtown Monday: Part I

"A Case of the Mondays"? Hardly.

It may come as a surprise to most but I'm actually a fan of Mondays.

Due to the fact that my brain is still in weekend mode, I don't really process that I'm at work until Tuesday.

My brain's some the times amazing.

So, already having an okay Monday is always made better by a shady pale yellow truck, shady (no need to insert yellow - or golden as Beetchie would say) Asians, and Taiwanese fried chicken with SPECIAL SECRET pork sauce over rice with Chinese mustard greens.

Yeah, you read right.

A new street eats truck called NYC Cravings has been making its way around the city, delivering two things: dumplings of the pork or veggie variety, and the above mentioned yummy fried chicken goodness.

Always eager to try new truck food and have a potential misadventure (you never know until you try!), H1, Alex and I trekked over to 46th & 6th when we were alerted via the midtownlunch blog, to guinea pig some fried chicken.

Unfortunately, you can't really make out the pale yellow from this picture thanks to my camera phone but it's an unmarked van that looks irregular. You can figure out which truck it is.

Oh Lork! I ate from a guy whose hand was THAT close to his nose?! Ahahaha, oh it's only a jest. It was clean. Today is Thursday and I was no where near ill and that scratching of the face was the shyness of a cutie Asian who didn't really want me to take his picture.

See? There's the cutie Asian! The girl who was helping him did not want to be in the picture and ran away but she was a cutie too.

They were anything but shady to tell you the truth (I mean special, secret pork sauce is kind of shady in itself but damned tasty) and were in fact, quite the friendly, sweetie types. It's always refreshing to meet nice Asians. Goodness knows I don't know any of those...Right, Beetchie? Ha.

Their unshady status could all change if we find out for sure if our fears are true - and that is that they may be Bingies. For now, we're going to pretend we didn't stumble upon that potentially true information.

Next Monday we're going back and bringing friends for more good times of crispy chicken, hopefully we'll be able to sample the pork dumplings this time since they only had effin' veggie dumplings, and a little chocolate fortune cookie that did not insult me.

The picture's not going to do it any justice to the meal but I'll post it anyway.

All of this just reminds us that Momma HO used to make the most awesome of Chinese style fried chicken times that we've not eaten in years.

We're working on trying to convince her that she should do that for us soon and so far it isn't working.

Curse you, Momma HO!

The Sort of Street Eat Adventure

This week, I braved it and bought sushi from stacked plastic containers, from a couple of Japanese guys selling the goods on the street in Midtown.

Alright, it was not as shady all that.

I did buy the sushi bowl as described but they're from Washoku, a Japanese eatery that takes lunch orders and delivers on 50th some the times or all the times? during the week.

They happened to have an extra lunch packed and I snatched it up with the help of H1's $6.00.

Pricey, yeah? It was actually worse - it was $6.50!

It was pretty good and yummy on the tamago 'noodles' there, but with a tiny bit of tuna and tons of rice, which really was not worth the money paid. Ah well.

I was properly impressed by the do-it-yourself-by-adding-hot-water miso soup mix. Of course, I could probably buy a packet of that for a few cents at the grocery... meh.

I sadly did not have my camera when I was on the street and did not get to take a picture of the cute little Japanese guy who sold the eats to me, nor a picture of their 'shady' operation.

I did however, as can be seen by the pictures, get a manu that was not in English.

Anyway, it's been days now since I ate it and I'm still here.

Really, there was nothing to worry about but this is what I'm going to have to do if I make it to China.

I'm re-developing my cast iron stomach!

Now if only I could stomach alien M&Ms...
