Snowfall in February!

It snowed during the first week of February - enough snowfall to go out there and create an army of Zombie Snowmen (Killer Mutant Snow Goons?), enjoy a snow day building Lego and general laziness.

And I did nothing of the sort!

No zombie army was crafted.  There was no massacre in the front yard, there was no building of Lego Werewolves and Mummies and there was certainly no general laziness.  I recall working from home...

Though, it wasn't all horrible (okay.  It was plenty horrible as Clee was not with us but there's always next year! Despair not!) as H1 and I baked a chocolate cake at the request of work frenemies and I took a few pictures of the snow as it fell and quietly piled up in the early stages on its way to 15 inches.

First up...chocolate cake.  Does it look tasty? No? Well it is.

Only on the first day, right after its baked though.  Or at least that is when it's best.
Next, the snow...

...and the snowy owl.
and snowy bats! Which...you're probably wondering why there are Halloween decorations outside but you'd be wrong to wonder.  Halloween is always in the HOchieS' hearts.  Deal.
with snowy bird houses.  (No birds were inside during the time this picture was taken - actually no birds are in here, ever.)
now with more twigs!
and berries.
And flower buds that have no business being around.  What?
Some trees that don't look like much.

Okay, and this little guy.  A bud that charmed me.  He's an acceptable Winter bud.  Not like that other thing that was the remnants of a rose.
So that was Snow in February for you.  We've not had too much in terms of major snow falls.  We have had dustings and a couple of inches here and there but really, it's been a decent winter for us.  Not so much for others but let me not talk as we're still in Winter for another few weeks and there's talk of snow on Wednesday.

I'm sure H1 will thank me to shut my pie hole.

Currently listening to: "Selene" by Imagine Dragons.  Can't quite figure them out yet.  The Killers influenced? Las Vegas as they may claim? I don't know.  I halfway like them for their halfway good album with a halfway mess on the rest of it.

What the What.

My camera has finally returned to me and I couldn't be more excited.

And what sort of craziness do I get to take (awful) pictures of on it's first foray back into the world?

Yep, snow.

I could not stay out there to take any sort of interesting pictures because it's pretty dangerous out there with the wind kicking up.

However, I just wanted to show you the shitnanigans regarding the snow, as H1 would probably want me to point out.

After the Hurricane last week and the Nor'Easter we're currently embroiled in, it's only serving to make me that much more convinced that the Zombie Apocalypse is soon headed our way.

Seriously though, this storm is a tragedy on top of all the hell many others faced last week and are still facing.

I did not get a chance to wish my good luck chant at the beginning of November but I'll wish it now for everyone.

"Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit.  Hare, Hare, Hare."

November....please stop this ridiculous behaviour.

The HOchieS in Winter

If there's one thing H1 despises, it's snow.

If there's one thing Or 2 despises, it's snow that falls on a Saturday completely reducing any chance of a snow day from work.

Yet, here we are.

Oh the depression this Saturday morning for the first real snow fall in NY for 2012!

::sigh::

Here are some pictures I braved the cold to go take.  Okay, well  maybe I stood from my front door and took the first two...but the others! Braved the cold, I did.

The Halloween Carnage: Now with Fresh Snow

It may not be Halloween today but it also is not Winter either, yet here we are on October 29th with snow - really heavy, blizzard-like snow and 50mph winds expected later - just 2 days before Halloween.

2 days...  Before Halloween!

I expect this kind of nonsense in Binghamton.  When we used to go to University there, this was not an uncommon sort of thing.  In fact, snow was not a stranger in July in that place.

But here, and for this amount of snow, well it's a little bit shocking.

I know - oo, shocking!
With the stores pushing Christmas decorations and shopping even earlier this year, I somehow feel that maybe I can all Conspiracy Shenanigans with this coming of snow!

Thursday: Misadventures of the Snowy Kind, Part I

This story actually began on Wednesday with the start of a fresh new storm from the perpetual four day cycle of snow storms we seem to be stuck in.

This storm, however, was going to be one of the bigger ones with an estimated 8 to 12 inches.  At the end of it all on Thursday morning, it dumped 19 inches in NYC.  The buses were not running in the city, and our train was on a Saturday schedule with delays but being the brave little HOchieS that we are, we went to work.

Really what happened was, H1 kinda had to go in because it would more beneficial for her in the long run.  So away we went!

It was lovely out with all the pure white, fresh fallen snow.  It was also incredibly sunny too, as if nothing had happened as the sky was a radiant blue.

Definitely Not Cool

Definitely not! Cold, perhaps.  Cool? No.

I have never hidden the fact that I hate Summer.  Summer to me is most people's Winter.  Have no fear though, my mind has not changed.

I still do not mind the Winter.

The cold, sometimes bothers me but only when I sit in cold train cars like a toothless* (new use of the term to describe someone or something that is a bit of an asshole), or I fail to dress warm enough.

The snow does not bother me.  Unlike H1, the snow can touch me and I won't get all crazed.

The ice, on the other hand...

Ice should always be in a drink or in the freezer but NEVER under my foot.

If it's under my foot then I panic.  It paralyzes me and I just don't want to walk.  I can't walk.  I ...complain.  A lot.  Oh, and I do the grip of death on to H1's arm when we're together in the city.

All this just to post some pictures of the crazy snowy winter weather we've been having thus far - with 2010 ending in a blizzard, and a snow storm every week, I thought I'd share some evil photos I took of the evil ice, and the not so evil snow.

I did not really take pictures of the Boxing Day 2010 blizzard, but just know at 10 p.m. that night at the heart of it all, Beetchie and I trundled through the snow to go from H1's house to my own.  It's not far by any means but I could not get there in 20 seconds by the leaps and bounds I intended to make.  No, sadly, the snow was up to my knee and all I could do was slowly drag my lower half like a sloth rather than the agile frog I was trying to be.

In any event, on to the pictures of everything you all have been missing! or experiencing! or...not caring! Meh.

Winter in our hearts, and in our stomach.  Tres Leches cake.  Yum.  What? It's like snow! with cherries.  Yeah.  Cherries on top.
Ah the house.  Uninhabitable, at this point I reckon.
It's all fun and games...
...until someone loses their shovel.
Then January came, and brought...the evil ice.
Just look at it waiting to kill things! Ugh.  Not funny at all.  It's truly a menace.

Just look at what it did to the snow.  Destroyed his brethren.  Shudder with me! ::shudder::
Looks like a baby may have piddled..no.  no.  It would be some degree of yellow.  Let us perish the thought.
Hanging outside my window like the assclowns that they are.
Oh but I'm on to you, assclowns.

On.  to.  you.

That Was Probably It

With Spring's official start in about 2 weeks or so, I'm guessing my luck for snow days is over until perhaps the end of the year.

While I am pleased that I escaped this winter without having to use lots of personal days from work, sometimes you just need a good snow day.

Sometimes, it's even better when your office closes for an entire day due to snow.

Ah, those days are few and wait...that day never happened before February 26th! It turns out that miracles do happen.

How best to spend a snow day than taking pictures with which to bombard others with?

It's only unfortunate that the snow was so blinding that I couldn't see what I was doing.  I think camera eye would have definitely failed.

I present to you, blinding snow pictures that I suffered to take.  View them and be blinded as well!

Or not...

I'm going to hide them behind a cut.  Click away, if you fancy.

Snow Day

At the tail end of 2008 into the first three months of 2009, we had soooo many snow days.

Those days combined with a bunch of days off due to various nasty colds, stomach bugs and NINfluenza, I was in danger of not making my hours at the jorb for the 2008/2009 period.

This winter so far, we had no snow days until yesterday.

Although I truly had a snow day, mind you. I was fortunate enough to bring work home so that this year I will not fall into last year's trap of struggling for hours.

I have to remember that I need to save my days for there's a potential trip to London in September and CLee Toy Story 3 buisness in June.

With all the snow fall this time around, I wanted to go out to take more pictures but these are the only ones I could muster up.

Wow, what a nice tree.
It's not one that's in our yards though.

This is more of what's in our yards.
Poor, sad, whatever you used to be, plant

At the side of H1's house is a lonely, keeled over flower pot.

Well this one is promising, at least this pot has company.
Also, nice shrubs you got growing there, H1.

What's growing in this one?

Awesome.

I dreaded the ice today and I'm dreading the ice tomorrow because if there's one thing I hate about winter, it's the ice and my inability to avoid slipping and cracking my assback.

Thanks for not falling today into Friday, snow storm!

No, that would just be too precious of you.

Brrrr, it's Winter!

Winter's here again and H1 is not happy.

Yesterday, we were hit with a bad snow storm that had us digging out ourselves from the 8-12 inches of snow left behind.

Welcome to the HOchieS 2008 Winter Blog Layout, where everything looks a lot sharper in Corel Painter (curse you JPEG and curse you Blogger for not being able to recognise RIFF files!).

Here you'll find a Snow Globe of Pine Trees that cracked and let out snow dusted hills, a lonely house with an equally large lonely reindeer, silver wind, a blue moon and a sky ripe with snow!

Did I mention H1 hates winter?

Currently: Feeling really pissed off if my package was indeed stolen today. This is what happens when Momma HOchie gets a present that she's not supposed to be getting from me.

Goo'day Winter '07 Blog Layout

Even though it's not officially Spring yet, I bid you goo'day.

Thanks for the goo'd time memories slightly-yellowed snowman and pagwa snowflake.

Bye Bye Darkness of Solemn Winter. I'm going to try something new.

The Pictures and the Things I've Wanted To Post But Only Got Around To Doing So Right This Second I

I've titled it "I" because I know there'll be others in the future.

Here are some cheery or not so cheery wintery photos (depending on who you ask) I've taken in the past few weeks:

The Mist has been trying to get us for years now! It's finally catching up and we are scared.

The crows and black birds have been trying the same for years as well. We. stay. very. still....

It's snow, not Christmas lights.

I remember this morning. It snowed, it sleeted, the rain fell, the roads were icy and the car rolled back down the hill.

The train came anyway and the birds didn't fall through the ice.

It's lights, not snow.

Some food I consumed during NYC's Winter 2008 @ Inagiku:

The yummy salmon tartare

The sushi I almost choked on and died from. Also, the sad realization has sunk in and that is that I probably cannot enjoy sushi unless I'm in Japan which means I probably will never eat it again

The tail of shrimp I munched on from Aims plate

The flan of tofu I rather enjoyed but it's not nearly as good as real custard but since H1 hates me and hasn't made it for me, I have to suffice with things some may call shart.

The head of a worm I ate not at Inagiku but at my desk one day.

Here we have some truths revealed. We need to look no further than on a canister of nitrogen near Grand Central Terminal:

But what's 9 (two) II?
